Having an attractive, confident smile and being able to eat comfortably are both excellent reasons to consider dentures as a replacement for your missing teeth. Whether you’re considering dentures for the first time or exploring dental implants for added stability, we offer a wide range of options, from conventional, removable dentures to implant-supported restorations, to meet your needs and align with your lifestyle and budget.Which Denture Is Right for You?
Choosing the right dentures for you should take into account not only how they look, but also how they feel, your lifestyle, any budget concerns, and your overall oral health. Every patient’s needs and goals are unique. During your initial consultation with Dr. Arnold, you’ll discuss the available options, and he will recommend the type of denture that best suits your needs.
Conventional Dentures
These are created after any necessary extractions and once the gums have fully healed. They rest on the gums and offer a natural-looking, functional smile.
Immediate Dentures
Made in advance and placed immediately after tooth removal, these allow patients to leave the office with a full smile the same day. As healing occurs, the fit will change, and follow-up adjustments help improve comfort.
Partial Dentures
For patients who still have some natural teeth, partial dentures replace missing teeth while blending in with the remaining ones to restore a balanced bite and natural appearance.
Implant-Supported Dentures
Dental implants can be used to anchor a denture securely in place. This option offers greater stability, comfort, and confidence while helping preserve bone structure and facial shape.

The Step-by-Step Process
Getting dentures takes some time. We do not want to rush through the process, as we want your dentures to fit perfectly and function properly the first time and every time you wear them. This requires all of Dr. Arnold’s years of experience, skill, and artistry.
- Consultation & Exam: The process begins with a comprehensive exam, which may include X-rays or a CBCT scan. We take impressions and help select the right tooth shade and shape for a natural appearance.
- Extractions (if needed): When teeth need to be removed before creating the denture, we’ll discuss whether this should be completed in a single visit or in stages. For immediate dentures, we’ll place the new set right after extractions and review what to expect as healing progresses and the fit changes.
- Try-In & Adjustments: Before the final denture is completed, a wax try-in allows for evaluation of appearance, comfort, and bite. This step will enable us to make refinements before the final fabrication. The process typically requires several visits over a period of a few weeks.
- Delivery & Short-Term Follow-Up: When your completed denture is ready, try it on to ensure fit and comfort, allowing us to make any necessary adjustments. Follow-up visits may be needed to help relieve any sore spots and fine-tune the fit.
Long-Term Maintenance
Regular care ensures your denture fits comfortably and your oral tissues remain healthy. Over time, your gums and jawbone may change shape, requiring relines, rebases, or the addition of soft liners to ensure a proper fit and comfort.
Routine Care & Maintenance
Proper daily care of your dentures is crucial for maintaining them and protecting your oral health. We suggest keeping these tips in mind to prolong the comfort and health of your dentures:
- Brush dentures daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive cleanser
- Soak them overnight in water or a denture solution
- Always rinse your dentures after meals to remove food debris
- Brush your gums, tongue, and palate as well as your dentures
- Schedule regular dental visits for checkups and adjustments
- Contact our office if the denture feels loose or uncomfortable
When to Choose an Implant-Retained Denture
Patients seeking a more comfortable and stable option for dentures may want to consider implant-supported dentures. These are a hybrid between dental implants and dentures. The implants help stabilise your dentures, preventing slippage and pinching, and reducing jawbone deterioration. We can discuss the best approach tailored to your needs, ranging from a few implants for added support to a full-arch solution. Please note that implant-supported dentures require surgery and additional recovery time, which will be discussed during your consultation.
Common Patient Questions
How long do dentures last?
Most dentures last approximately 5 to 10 years, depending on changes in the mouth and the level of care they receive.
Will dentures affect my speech or eating?
There may be a brief adjustment period. With a little practice, most patients speak and eat comfortably within a short time.
What’s the difference between an immediate denture and a temporary denture?
An immediate denture is placed immediately after extractions and serves as your permanent denture, while a temporary denture is sometimes used during the healing process before a final set is made.
How often is a reline needed?
We recommend relines every 1 to 2 years, depending on how comfortable your dentures continue to feel and any changes in the gums and bone.
How should dentures be cleaned?
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or a denture brush, along with a mild cleanser (such as liquid hand soap or a denture cleaner), to clean your dentures. Rinse thoroughly and soak them overnight. Avoid using hot water, as it can damage the denture and compromise its fit.
